Updates at Sticky Incorporated

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Hello stickydrive patrons, and thank you again for your continued support.  Events at Sticky HQ continue to unfold as a series of exciting opportunities.  Our staff of programming impresarios grows daily (or so it seems) and we are excited to welcome some new additions.  Steve has come on board in a contractual capacity to help with QA (quality assurance) and we are happy to have his guidance and expertise – he has a long history and an excellent track record managing QA systems for large projects.

Also joining us soon is Forrest, a recent graduate of Harvey Mudd college.  Forrest comes to us with a good deal of Flash and UI experience, and we are excited to have him join the team.

Our release of stickybeta_0.6.2  has so far been very successful.  We have had many positive comments, and many concerns in previous builds seem to have been improved or resolved.  Thank you again to everyone who has written in with feedback and suggestions.  We try to respond quickly to questions and implement as many positive suggestions as possible.

If ever you have a question or concern, please feel encouraged to write in and share your thoughts with us.  We’re happy to hear from you.   That’s all for now.

Hello again

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Hello stickydrive users and readers – happy wednesday.  Many fun and exciting things have been happening at Sticky HQ since last we communicated.  Terry, the gentleman I mentioned in my last blog, is fitting in wonderfully here with the team.  As a senior programmer with 40+ years of experience, he is a tremendous guide and leader for the engineering team – we’re lucky to have him.

We’ve also brought on some more new talent, Ben is a junior programmer recently out of school joining us from North Carolina.  He wanted to pursue more surf time, so a job in Santa Cruz was a great fit.  The fact that he’s jumped in with both feet and begun coding on his first day makes us feel good too.

We are working on a new set of products with some cool features; sadly I can not share a lot of information about them at this time.  When I can, you will be the first (well, maybe the third) to know.  Meanwhile, Jacob reecently posted up a new build of the stickydrive .exe and it seems to have improved a number of tetchy features.

Thank you again to all of our loyal supporters and friends.  We appreciate your hellp, your support, and the fact that you use our program.  As always, if you think of something we could change or improve, plese don’t hesitate to write and let us know.

Have a sticky day everyone.

David

Happy Memorial Day.

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Hello everyone, and happy holiday. I hope everyone gets a moment today to relax a little, and to reflect on the reasons for this day off. Did you know that Memorial day, in one form or another, has been American tradition since the Civil War.

Now, in sticky news, here’s what’s happening. Sarah, our visiting survey expert has left Sticky Inc. for the summer at least. She has a long running job as the director of aquatics at a summer camp in Malibu, CA. That place is near and dear to our hearts at Sticky Inc., so even though we’re sorry to lose Sarah, we know it’s in a good cause.

We have a new website, and we’re pretty happy about it. Please feel free to send us feedback on the new site, or on anything else (good or bad) regarding stickydrive – we always like to hear from our users.

And, perhaps most important of all, we’re excited to welcome a new team member. A very experienced gentleman named Terry is joining us as a senior programmer and project manager. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge to use and share with us, including time at NASA. For all intents and purposes, we now have a rocket scientist working at Sticky Inc. Nice.

That’s it for now, thanks for reading, and as always please feel free to write to us with feedback, commentary, or just to say hi.

I hope everyone has a very sticky day.

Welcome Everybody

Well, stickydrive headquarters is buzzing this morning; there has been a significant jump in user traffic.  It appears that a posting on digg.com has brought a minor tsunami of downloaders to the stickydrive website.  First of all, let me be the first to say thank you.  Thank you for trying out our product and giving us so much feedback.

As you know, stickydrive is still in Beta testing, so we expect there to be a hiccup or two.  Your patience with these challenges, and willingness to try out a new product is really great, so thank you for that as well.

In case anyone is still unclear, stickydrive is what we have termed a “digital eco-system,” or a “portal for digital identity.”  Our contention is that many people use flash drives not only as means of carrying and transferring files, but also as an eleventh finger – one which carries music, photos, documents, and now applications for use in a variety of locations.   Our goals have been as follows:

1. To make it easy to carry, access, and share content

2. To offer and refine portable application technology so that your digital identity is not restricted to a particular PC

Our embedded applications (like the music player) are not intended to replace other media options, like iTunes or Windows media programs.  Rather, they are intended to create easy access to your files, regardless of location.  Most computers you use will have one or another media players available to you.  stickydrive has one built in so you don’t have to spend time transferring files when you’re in a new location; instead, there’s a viable option immediately available to you.

As I mentioned above, stickydrive is in Beta testing; we appreicate your help in learning what works well and what needs improvement.  Please feel encouraged to post to our fourms, or to send in emails with suggestiosn and requests.  We will try to keep you updated as things change and improve .  Also, there are several new products in design right now-  more on those later.

In the meantime, thanks again for checking out our product, and let us know what we’re doing wrong, and what we’re doing right.

Have a sticky day everyone.  :)

Thanks for coming!

Last week’s focus group was a tremendous success. We delved deep into the minds of 15 UCSC students, discussing their likes, dislikes and deepest technological desires. The turnout was great and everyone had many interesting things to contribute to our discussion. The information learnt and gathered over the course of the evening was extremely valuable, inspiring many new ideas. We would like thank everyone who came to the focus group. Your participation, creativity and humor were fantastic, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

In other exciting news, the new build is near release. Things are running faster and smoother then ever before. Our new picture uploader will now allow you to publish many more pictures at much faster speeds. There is no better way to share your pictures then with a fast and trendy sticky scrapbook. Try it out and let us know what you think.

Have a sticky day everyone.

Sarah
